Sosúa

Don't dream about your life but live your dreams…
... and this brought us to Sosúa.

Located 10 minutes from the airport (Puerto Plata) 15 minutes from Cabarete and 25 minutes from Puerto Plata City.

Playa Sosúa is the main beach, a long, somewhat thin stretch of tawny sand backed by palm trees and often crowded with people.
It is situated at one end of a wide bay, with a long pretty beach and several sandy nooks.
All the beaches here are covered with golden-yellow sand and the calm bay lends itself to snorkelling and scuba diving.
Sosúa remains the most important city on the North Coast after Puerto Plata, by virtue of its size, history and proximity to the airport.

Sosúa is a good alternative to Puerto Plata, with many of the same amenities, but offers more tour options, restaurants, bars and nightlife.
It has a large selection of shops and services and is an extraordinary base for exploring the North Coast.

Sosúa is generally considered the diving and snorkelling capital of the North Coast. It has a large selection of dive operators.

A more tranquil and alternative beach is Playa Alicia, a broad half moon of yellow sand lapped by blue water.

Puerto Plata City Tour: Steeped in colonial history, the North Coast port is also the hub for the area’s thriving tourist complexes, offering a great combination of sightseeing and entertainment. Tourist attractions include the San Felipe Fortress, La Glorieta, and the Museo del Ambar but the highlight is the fantastic teleférico that takes you to the top of Pico Isabel de Torres.

Playa Dorada: The 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones is a must.

Rio San Juan: Laguna gri-gri is a tangled mangrove where you can visit the mangrove forests, some interesting rock formations and a cave populated by hundred of swallows.

Santo Domingo
Zona Colonial : The historic jewel in the capital’s crown, this district of restored colonial buildings and shady plazas is filled with well-preserved reminders of a bygone age.
The modern city :The modern metropolis encompasses crowded downtown streets, charming suburbs, and relaxing parks, where art galleries rub shoulders with US-style shopping.

Santiago: This laid-back second city has a different atmosphere than the bustling Santo Domingo. Its streets are filled with monuments to its past glory as a tobacco boom town.

La Isabela bay:The place where European colonization of the Americas really began. The beautiful bay reveals the story of Columbus’s first settlement. Other highlights include some wonderful beaches such as Playa Isabela and Punta Rucia Beach.

Las Terrenas:Once tiny fishing village surrounded by idyllic beaches has become one of the coolest spots in the country and a magnet for independent travellers and sun lovers.

Location

We are located near the beach and the center of Sosua. You do need to cross the street and descend the stairs before you arrive at the main beach of Sosua (see photo of map where we are situated).

Both the center and the beach are really walking distance (3 minutes) so you don't need transportation to get there.

At the beach and in the center you will find lots of local bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. It may occur that the people will try to sell you their arts and craft works on the beach. This, however, is part of the local atmosphere of the Caribbean and we adore this beach. The main beach of Sosua is known for its snorkeling – there are several coral reefs but you need to be a good swimmer to get there on your own.

If you would prefer privacy on the beach, we can recommend another beach, Playa Alicia. It is approximately 7 minutes walk to Playa Alicia from our Casa 21.

Cabarete – the surf and kite paradise – is situated 15 minutes drive from Sosua and Puerto Plata City is about 25 minutes drive.

The best airport to fly into is the airport of Puerto Plata and this is only 10 minutes drive from our Casa Veintiuno.

Punta Cana is about 8 hours drive, Santo Domingo is 4 hours, Santiago is 1 hour and 30 minutes and Puerto Plata city is 25 minutes drive from Sosua.

Cabarete

Cabarete’s beaches are it’s main attractions, and not just for sun and sand.
The beaches are each home to a different water sport, and they are great places to watch beginner and more advanced athletes alike. This is the center of the North Coast’s adventure sport activity.
One look at the beach will prove as much, the colourful windsurfing and kite boarding sails brightening the shore and dotting the aquamarine water.

Playa Cabarete, the main beach in front of town, is the best place for windsurf watching, while the very best windsurfers are well offshore at the reef line.

Bozo Beach is the western downwind side of Playa Cabarete. There are more kite boarders at Bozo and the surf here is better for boogie boarding. Both Cabarete and Bozo have nice sand and pretty palm trees.

Kite Beach, 2 km west of town, is a sight to reserve to on windy days, when scores of kiters of all skill levels negotiate huge sails and 30m lines amid waves and traffic.

Playa Encuentro, 4 km west of town, is the ideal place to go surfing. The beach itself is OK, but the strong tide and rocky shallows make swimming more difficult and perhaps risky.

Cabarete’s beach has a fine selection of shops and is lined with restaurant after restaurant, all boasting open air dining areas facing the water.
The view and breeze are terrific.
The drinking and party scene is fun with bars open to the wee hours almost every night of the week.
